Hose Emancipation
From a collection of pipe images gleaned from wholesale websites, my intention with this first series of paintings of pipes and hoses was to offer the image a new possibility of being through the change of medium, format and the intimate relationship created by its handmade and personal process. Billions of spirals are being drawn by the tubes and hoses when they are stored, folded for transportation or being photographed for commercial purposes. Involving myself in the speculative fiction of the foreclosed spiral drawings, I gave myself the experimental task to emancipate the representations of pipes and hoses. The series of paintings are the result of this, some forms of image empowerment.
